Role and Responsibilities


We are currently looking for an experienced, innovative Mechanical Engineer / Designer to join our team. The successful candidate must demonstrate their ability to think creatively when faced with a challenge, and provide practical solutions to technical problems. You will be expected to liaise with fabricators, machinists, toolmakers, electricians, and vendors, to understand problems and provide solutions focused on continuous improvement. An ideal candidate will have experience in the automation industry using AutoCad, Solidworks, and NX, and have a good understanding of fixtures, experience using BIW/NAAMS, developing 3D models for custom machinery design, and use of process simulators for simulation of cells.


Qualifications


  • Minimum of (5) years of related work experience.

  • Ability to use 3D scanning software to reverse engineer design and validate builds.

  • Must have knowledge of safety systems related to robotics cells and machinery safety design.

  • Knowledge of common machine shop techniques, drafting principles and be capable of designing tooling from sketches or verbal concepts.


Job Description


  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, hardness in the development of equipment, process, and products.

  • Perform engineering calculations with respect to strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, as related to machine and tool designs.

  • Review drawings, accurate material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes and hardness.

  • Produce product drawings, detailed drawings and bill of materials for equipment, subassemblies or products using Auto Cad and SolidWorks.

  • Create drawings of existing tooling using precision measuring equipment such as calipers (vernier/dial/digital) and micrometers.

  • Analyze designs and systems for compliance to applicable standards (OSHA, CE, or customer specifications).

  • Perform on-site investigations to determine mechanical design requirements for both new equipment and modifications to existing equipment.

  • Communicate task progress to senior designer and communicate all design changes to a Project Lead or Manager.

  • Formalize and update drawing documentation.


Experience and Education:


  • A Mechanical Engineering Degree or diploma, specializing in mechanical, electrical, system or robotic engineering

  • P.ENG designation would be an asset

  • Experience in industrial automation will be considered an asset

  • Must be able to work both independently and within a team

  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills

  • 5 years experience in AutoCAD and Solidworks

  • Possess strong interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office applications

Starting wage rates/hour will follow the ranges below and will be determined based on skill and experience.


Senior Rate $36.00 - 52.00/hr
